Jazkamer - We Want Epic Drama (2010)

Jazkamer
We Want Epic Drama (2010, Pica Disk)

"Billed as a "big-band noise extravagansa", this is some epically spastic and propulsive plaster blaster from the always impenetrable John Hegre and Lasse Marhaug; joined here by several other metal and noise luminaries. Dig it loud little biddies!" - DD

Piero Piccioni
More Than a Miracle (C'era Una Volta) (1967, MGM Records)

"An elegant and dreamy score from the prolific Piero Piccioni; this reminds me somewhat of Once Upon A Time In The West or the music from Galaxy Express 999 or something of that ilk, though overall it's more evenly paced. It can be a little repetitive but I've been jammin it often for months while riding the metro and deffy recommend for some easy-breezy good times. Dig in foolies 'n coolies!" - DD

Emil Beaulieau ‎– Memories (1994?)

Emil Beaulieau
Memories (1994?, Pure)

"Huzzah! From the grrrand master of North American noise comes Memories; a fierce and eclectic blend of tape loops, feedback and all sorts of mangled and fuzzy collage work. The man is easily one of the most notable figures in noise (not to mention his other incredible contributions to the genre) and this is one of my favourites of his (that I've heard). Enjoy it little birrrdies!" - DD

Killing Melody: Instrumental Music From Japanese Pinky Violence Movies (LP) (2010, Ethbo Music)

"Pinky Violence is probably the best name for a film genre ever, and that's fitting given the films it produced; titillating, irreverent, violent (duh), funny, action packed, and above all just plain cool. This compilation of classic music from these films is exactly as groovy as you'd think given that description, so jam on all you sexy biker babies!" - DD

A Musical Evocation Of The Old Testament (LP) (1981, Musical Touch Sound)

"If the Old Testament were a late 70's/early 80's sci-fi, spaghetti western set in a dystopian future and Ennio Morricone, Vangelis and Giorgio Moroder were teamed to write and produce the score, I think this would be that score. The sample track doesn't do a good job of showcasing what the album has to offer but it's the only one I could find, so please grab this and enjoy." - DD

"Here's some hazey, lo-fi solo jammers from 39 Clocks' Juergen Gleue. These drugged-out psych songs remind me of a lot of things (like 39 Clocks, Lou Reed definitely comes to mind) but it's tough to really pinpoint what so I say just give it a listen and decide for yourself. These were originally recorded in the late 90's and apparently represent Gleue's final recordings. Chew it loud and free kiddies!" - DD

Loads of swirling organ, deep bluesy bass, punchy drums, the occasional horn jam and that classic, perfectly overdriven 70's guitar tone. This collects both LBM albums into one beefy, rollin' jammer, so you can riff on for days. Dig it lager!" - DD

Highlights for me are Keep On Walking, The Third Eye (crank this with headphones and lose your mind), and of course the title track is a brick of solid gold (no wonder it's been sampled nearly a hundred times), but the entire album is fantastic. "Wold have been creating a monster of sound that some have referred to as Black Noise (Black Metal + Harsh Noise) for over a decade now. This is one of their earlier releases and is a bit more "Metal" than some more recent stuff. Personally I find them so cacophonous that it creates a sort of peace and stillness, and as such usually put it on when I want to relax. I fell asleep on the couch yesterday to this one, it was good. Others may not agree but that's fine. Enjoy this murky blizzard you repulsive puddles of piss!" - DD

I've also been trying to get my own copy of any of his records for years, but they're hard to come by and usually fairly pricey. Melding disco and funk with afrobeat, a touch of soul and sometimes even a bit of hip-hop, Dizzy K brings the party every time. Edgar Froese - Kamikaze 1989 (OST) (1982)

Edgar Froese
Kamikaze 1989 (OST) (1982, Virgin)

"I believe I first heard some of the music on this soundtrack as a result of watching the film Devil Fetus, which if I remember correctly steals several tracks (Intuition specifically) from this album (among others). In trying to track down that soundtrack I eventually learned of this, and was very pleased I did. A fantastic and underrated synth score from the Fassbinder thriller. I love how eclectic this is, from meandering tranquility to more kraut-y, beat driven stuff, it has a lot to offer. I've been binging on it for the past few months and hopefully you will as well! Ghil (2013, Ideologic Organ)

"After nearly two years of inactivity, and the recent realization that I did not post a single update in 2014, I have decided to return to this blog in the hopes that I can continue to update it on a more regular basis. I have received a lot of very positive feedback, in the past few months especially, which has really made me miss this and I appreciate every email or message I read. Thank you endlessly for your continued support and appreciation!

With that said I present Ghil, from experimental cellist Okkyung Lee. Each piece here is one track of solo improvised cello, but the sounds within are so far from simple. The skronk Lee creates on this album is totally outrageous and frantic and mesmerizing. Please dig in, and I hope to see you all again soon my precious beauties! xoxo" - DD

"Automatic Vaudeville is the oft-forgotten followup to Vyto B's highly sought after debut, Tricentennial 2076. Both are pretty fantastic, but I find this a bit more fun. With lyrical content that runs the gamut; from porn stars to feminism, true love to toga's, these are super rad electro-junk power jams. Highly recommended for lonely dance parties to lull the gloom. Jandek
You Walk Alone (1988, Corwood Industries)

"I don't know how to effectively describe this, my first post in over five months. I could say it's a masterpiece. I could say it's strange. I could over alliterate as I often do and say it's "a bewildering beast of breathtaking beauty" (I kind of like that). I can and will do all of that. It is absolutely all of those things and more. The only thing that matters though is that I just love the way it sounds. Don't listen to or not listen to this because it's Jandek. Listen to it because it's one of the best records of the 1980's." - DD

Terry Riley
Persian Surgery Dervishes (2x LP) (1972, Shandar)

"This is one of my favourite works by Riley. It's comprised of two live concerts of solo electric organ, the first from '72 and the second from '71. Two different takes on the same composition. I find it both very warm and thoughtful, while still glistening with moments of jarring dissolution. It's quite trance inducing and I recommend some serious digging, my fellow astral beings!" - DD

There are few other players that capture such an emotive style and surrender themselves so willingly and wholeheartedly to their instrument. Cosmic Love showcases this perfectly, and is quite possibly the greatest song ever recorded. This album is pure heaven so please enjoy!" - DD
