Headless Heroes - The Silence of Love (2008)

Ok, this one goes up for Devo, but anyone should feel free to grab it. Headless Heroes features folk singer Alela Diane, but if you're not a fan of her brooding country-folk style don't let that stop you from grabbing this. Sounding more like an optimistic Mazzy Star, this band was put together as a sort of one-off project by Eddie Bezalel. With the help of producer Hugo Nicholson, the two culled together a group of musicians, with Diane on lead vocals, to do their renditions of what they like to call "lost classics and unearthed gems". It's basically a collection of covers, but unlike a lot of covers albums it's full of great songs. I can't remember all of the bands, I used to have a list but I lost it i'm sorry, but they're all great songs. There's Daniel Johnston, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Vashti Bunyan, Linda Perhacs(!!), Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, and if that's not enough then go fuck yrself. This is slow and moody, and if thats not yr thing then skip it, but if you like any of the bands then you might as well check it out. I really liked it overall. And just to clarify, this is quite different, musically, from Alela Diane's solo stuff. I think it's more interesting.

Gabba Hey!

That cover art is indeed something else. Anybody know where it came from/who it is by? Nothing on the CD unfortunately.

Just started listening to the album, would be a AD fan so I'm sure I'll enjoy.
